Universal Precautions
Universal precautions refers to standard procedures used to avoid contact with blood and other bodily fluids. Universal precautions should be taken for your own protection whether your are aware that a bloodborne pathogen is present or not. BSI and PPE are essential components of universal precautions.
Body Substance Isolation (BSI)
BSI the concept of isolating one’s self from the elements of another individuals body substances. The concept is designed to protect individuals from becoming contaminated with infectious materials.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
PPE is the utilization of equipment to protect one's self from infectious materials. The use of PPE is designed to control infectious materials from contaminating other individuals. Several examples of PPE are latex gloves, disposable caps & gowns and face masks.
